On Monday, January 18, 2021, Bernice Irene Coates, a loving partner, mother and foster mother, passed away at the age of 77.
Bernice was born on July 21, 1943 in Flint, Michigan to mother, Carrie Burr. Bernice spent most of her life working in a factory, Fayette Tubler, where she met the love of her life, Patricia, and traveling the United States in semi-trucks. Bernice was passionate about animals and fostered many throughout her life time including birds, cats, and dogs from friends and family. She spent her Sundays watching NASCAR and enjoyed watching her soaps throughout the week; she was an exceptional puzzle player and enjoyed spending time in her backyard over looking the flowers in her garden.
Bernice is survived by her partner of 30 years Patricia Ann, her six children, Brian Coates, Terry (Coates) Brackins, Samantha, Rodney, Katelynn, Janie and several grandchildren Amanda, Mariah, and Tayshaun Brackins, Erin Johnston, Adam Cox, Tasha Hoffman, Alissa Cox and Clarissa Coates. Great-grandchildren Zayden, Adam Jr, Brianna, Austin, Tyler, Katie, Justin, Jasmine, Jackson, and Karina. Sisters Charlotte Wildley of Flint, MI; and Sandy Maloney of Oscoda, MI. Bernice was preceded in death by her brother Victor, Niece Carrie Widley, and Nephew Kevin Widley. Bernice will be cremated and a memorial in her honor will be held with close family.
