Daniel Lloyd Maynard, 83, of Swartz Creek and Flushing, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2023, at his home while surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Marge; his children, Shawn Gibeault (Jeff), Nicole Maynard-Powell (John), and his son Derek Maynard (Cyndi); his grandchildren, Grant and Paige Gibeault, Alexee and Kendyl Powell and Hailee and Quinn Maynard.
Dan was born on December 18, 1939, in Marshalltown, Iowa. After high school, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Turkey and Greece.
Dan met his soulmate, Marge on a blind date. It was love at first sight for both of them. They had a loving marriage for over 62 years.
His proudest accomplishment was his family. He was adored by his children and grandchildren, and being a Papa was one of the greatest honors of his life.
His children describe him as their role model, hero and north star. His grandchildren fondly remember playing putt putt golf, meals at A&W and his made-up stories. No one will forget his famous french toast, the only food he knew how to make. Dan’s family speeches were legendary and usually left everyone in tears, including him.
Dan was a natural born salesman who loved business and turning customers into friends. His work ethic was strong and he owned several businesses including Perry Printing and Dan Maynard and Associates. His honesty, integrity, and genuine interest in people, made him successful in sales and life. Dan eventually sold the businesses and continued to work in sales until his retirement at the age of 73.
During his life Dan enjoyed being an active part of his community. Whatever organization he joined, he eventually ended up in a leadership role. Some of his favorites were the West Flint Optimist Club, the Flint Swim and Racquet Club, and the Flushing Valley Country Club. He enjoyed long distance running and bowling in his younger years. He later discovered the second love of his life-golfing. Dan even moved across from the 10th hole of his favorite course in an effort to improve his game.
A celebration of life will be held in January and family and friends will be contacted with the details. The family has requested that remembrances be made in Dan’s name to the West Flint Optimist Club, an organization that works to help local children’s programs or the Michigan Parkinson Foundation.
