Merlen Howard Hemmila, 72, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 27, 2022. Merle was born on July 12, 1949 to Howard and Shirley Hemmila in Cloquet, MN. After school, Merle enlisted in the Navy and served in the Vietnam War aboard the USS Passumpsic. After discharging from the Navy, Merle started Superior Cash Register where he owned his business for 40 years.
Merle was married to Sue for 49 years. She was the love of his life, and they enjoyed doing everything together. They first met on September 7, 1969 and got married on August 24, 1972.
Merle loved all sports, but he especially loved hockey and golf. In the summer you could always find him out at Atlas Valley Country Club playing golf, with Sue walking with him.
Merle is survived by his wife, Sue (Townsend), three children, Alex (Megan), Jonathan (Jaclyn), and Amanda (Alvaro Novoa), and three grandchildren (Andrew, Adam, and Joliette). He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Hemmila. Loving husband, father, and grandfather will be missed by all.
The visitation and memorial service will be held at Berean Baptist Church on Friday, March 4, 2022 from 10:00 A.M. - 12:00 P.M. The memorial service will be immediately following the visitation, at Berean Baptist Church. A private burial service for family will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
