CROSS, Dorothy M. – Of Flint, age 95, died peacefully Wednesday, March 24, 2021.Dorothy lived a long life—filled with a big family, many friends, and lovingly prepared home-cooked meals complete with everyone’s favorite pies, cakes, cookies, and candies. She was preceded in death by her parents; her devoted husband Floyd Cross; her siblings Lucille, John, Wilford; her son Dale Cross, son-in-law Paul Walling, and grandson Ethan Cross.
Dorothy was born in Racine, Missouri. She graduated from Neosho High School and soon thereafter migrated to Michigan, where she met Floyd, one of 6 children in his family, and planted her new family roots in Flint. Their marriage was blessed with children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and even great great grandchildren.
Dorothy was one of the last in our family of the greatest historical generation. She was proud to be the wife of a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a mother of a Marine, her son the late Rev. Dale Cross. Throughout her life, as a high school graduate moving from Missouri to Michigan, as a co-owner of a restaurant in downtown Flint, and just as someone who was always there for a friend or a family member, Dorothy lived with a caring yet courageous spirit.
Her memory stays with us as we celebrate her transition to God’s eternal kingdom. She leaves behind children Reba (Cross) Walling, Rhonda (Smith) Cross, Neil (Dalyne) Cross, Terry (Elaine) Cross, and an extended family including nieces, nephews, and cousins, and friends--all of whom she cherished.
Dorothy’s family is deeply grateful for the gracious care provided by Lockwood of Burton and Ascension Genesys. A private family service will be held at Swartz Funeral Home on Saturday, March 27, 2021 followed by a graveside service at Flint Memorial Park. Flowers may be sent to Swartz Funeral Home in Dorothy’s remembrance.
