WOOD, Sidney – of Mt. Morris, age 98, died Saturday, July 1, 2023, at Cranberry Park of Clio. Funeral service will be held 11AM Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. A private burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home Friday, July 7, 2023, from 2PM until 7PM and Saturday from 10AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Vienna Lodge #205 or to the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris.
Sidney was born June 30, 1925, in Flint, to the late Burl and Zella (Peters) Wood. He attended Mt. Morris High School where he received his high school diploma with the class of 1943, and he worked at DuPont for 35 years until his retirement. Sidney proudly served his country as a corpsman in the United States Navy during World War II. On October 5, 1947, Sidney was united in marriage to Barbara Peterson. Together, they shared 74 years of marriage and welcomed two daughters to the world. Sidney was a member of the Mt. Morris First United Methodist Church, and he was a lifetime member of the Vienna Lodge #205. In his younger years, Sidney enjoyed hunting and fishing, and golfing in his later years. He especially enjoyed the summer months of tending to the flower beds and mowing, some would even say he was the “Lawn Ranger”. He will be dearly missed.
Sidney is forever remembered by his daughters: Judy Basinski and Debra (Allan) Thompson; Grandsons: Nicolas (Katie) Basinski and Joseph Basinski; Great-Grandchildren: Madeline and Shayleigh Basinski; Niece and nephew: Charlotte Bloomfield-Mallow and Donald Batterbee; Many beloved extended family and friends. Sidney was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Wood; Parents, Burl and Zella; Sister, June Batterbee; Son-in-law, Thomas Basinski. |
