TAMEZ, Abelardo – Of Burton, age 93 died Thursday, November 10, 2022 at Maple Place.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2022
Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Father Andrew Czajkowski officiating.
Burial in Meadowview Memorial Gardens.
Visitation 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday and 12 p.m. Friday until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Abelardo was born in San Benito, Texas on July 2, 1929, the son of the late Genaro and Camilia Tamez, and was a resident of Burton and the Flint area since 1953.
He married Sara Padilla on June 25, 1955.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was a member of Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, UAW Local 659 and Morningstar Lodge No. 556 F. & A.M Knights of Columbus Council.
Mr. Tamez was employed by General Motors Flint Metal Fab for 35 years, retiring on June 1, 1989.
Surviving are 3 sons, Rafael and wife Judy of Burton, Raul and wife Jeanne of Grand Blanc, Ramiro and wife Linda of Burton;
daughter-in-law, Tammy (Rick) Cronkright;
10 grandchildren;
18 great-grandchildren;
brother, Ernesto;
sister, Carman Rodriguez;
many nieces and nephews.
The family extends special thanks to Maple Place staff and residents and the staff at Compassus Hospice.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, on June 17, 2022; son, Reuben, in 2000; great-grandson, Chase; his parents; brother, Carlos and half-sister, Margarita Hernandez.
