SHONTS, Douglas Roy - Of Grand Blanc, age 90, died Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Henry Ford Genesys Hospital.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10am Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 South Saginaw Street, Grand Blanc,
Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Contributions can be made to the Holy Family Catholic Church or Huntsman Club of Grand Blanc.
Visitation will be 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. A Rosary will be prayed 6:30pm Monday evening at the funeral home. Visitation 9am Tuesday at church until the time of the Mass.
Douglas was born in Pine Run, Michigan on September 11, 1934, the son of Shirley and Margaret (Cornell) Shonts, and grew up in the Clio area before moving to Grand Blanc in 1970. He married his high school sweetheart, Mona Goldsmith, on June 23, 1956, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Douglas played on the 1951 championship Clio High School football team. He served as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. National Guard. He was a longtime member of the Grand Blanc Huntsman's Club, an avid outdoorsman and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Douglas was a skilled trades supervisor at General Motors for 40 years, retiring in 1995.
Surviving are his wife, Mona;
children, Martin, Scott and wife Arlene, Gregory Shonts and Debbie Rice, Cynthia and husband Kevin Travis and Eric;
grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher, Sandra, Evan, Parker, Christian, Sophia and Morgan;
great-grandchildren, Athena and Mason; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren;
brother, Thomas Shonts; sister, Susan June; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Dolores Bortle.
