Jones, Ruth Arleene of Flushing, age 87, went to her Heavenly Father surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 25, 2024, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Ruth VanderSande will officiate. Burial will follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-7 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Flushing United Methodist Church.
Ruth was born in Stanton, Michigan on November 4, 1937, the daughter of Howard and Geraldine (Ketner) Peters. She married Don Jones on June 25, 1960. They shared over 60 years together and he preceded her in death on February 8, 2021. Ruth graduated from Ferris Institute (Ferris State University) with her bachelor’s degree and later earned her master’s degree from Michigan State University. She was a College Instructor at Detroit Business College, now Davenport University, for many years. Ruth was a faithful and active member of Flushing United Methodist Church, belonging to the Women’s Group and the Philomatheon Society. She was a trailblazer when it came to women’s rights and proud to encourage other women. Together with her husband, they enjoyed square dancing, traveling to places such as Hawaii, Yellowstone and going on crusies, and for many years, they enjoyed spending time at their lake house in Barton City and pontoon rides. Ruth was an avid reader, spent time gardening, bird watching and doing jigsaw puzzles.
Ruth is survived by her two daughters, Kristina and husband David Moore, Paula and husband Van Bigelow; grandchildren, Krista and husband Henry Justiniano, Joshua and wife Patricia Tippett; great-granddaughter, Marceline Ruth; sister, Mary Peters; sister-in-law, Clela Peters; and many, many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Marvin Peters; and nephew, Jim Peters.
