David was born September 9, 1947, in Flint, Michigan. All throughout his life, David enjoyed watching and participating in a variety of sports. As a child, he won the Championship in the Flint Junior Golf Program, and his talent and love of golf continued into his later years. At Clio High School, David excelled in football, track and basketball. As Co-Captain of the basketball team in 1965, he helped lead the Mustangs all the way to the State Quarter Finals after defeating their opponents in both the District and Regional Championship games. Also, the 1964 -1965 season was highlighted by a history-making 102-84 victory over Beecher High School. In that game, David scored 33 points and made 16 of his 19 shots. The Mustangs scored 102 points, and that was before the 3-point shot was even invented!

In the summers, David participated in various Flint Olympian Games, CAN-USA Games, and worked as a lifeguard at the Clio Pool. After High School, David joined the U.S. Army and served for three years.

While fighting in Vietnam with the 25 Infantry Division, he was wounded and received a Purple Heart. As a war hero, he was also awarded 2 Bronze Stars, and several other commendations for skill and bravery.

David was not only a war hero; he was also a hero and mentor for many children. He was active for several years in the Clio Little League Program where he coached his own sons and many other boys and girls in the art of baseball. Some of those players still endearingly refer to him as “Coach” to this day. He followed many of these same boys into Clio High School where he coached freshman baseball. David also shared his knowledge and passion for basketball by coaching a 7th and 8th grade Carter Middle School team and the Clio varsity girls' basketball team.

David enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating and dinners and gatherings with his many friends in Michigan and Florida. His special joys were watching his sons become loving fathers and watching his grandchildren grow and live happy lives. Above all, David was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. His family was his number one priority.

Left to cherish his memory are: Devoted wife of 54 years, Ava; Sons: Brian (Amy), and Brent (Nicole); Grandsons: Kolton, Koby and Grady; Granddaughter, Reese; Brothers: Gary (Mary), and Alan (Janis); Sisters: Ann Erhardt (Robert), and Susan Najar (Michael); Several cousins, nieces, and nephews. David was preceded in death by: Parents, Arlene and William Langdon.
