SZECSODI, Mary Louise (Brophy) – of Clio, age 84, peacefully passed in her home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. The funeral service will take place at 3PM Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Chaplain Goodman Cox will officiate. Family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home from 12PM until the time of service.
Mary Lou was born May 26, 1938, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Cecil and Elsie (McClure) Brophy. She and Coleman William Szecsodi were united in marriage June 12, 1954, in Mt. Morris. Mary Lou was a homemaker along with other jobs. Mary Lou was a Powder Puff racecar driver (1960-1970). She raced at Auto City, Dixie, and Owosso Speedways. She was also a Tupperware manager of the Clio warehouse. Mary Lou owned and operated Mary Lou’s Cake and Candy Supplies. She would run the business for several years until her knees would not allow her to continue. Finally, she was a Mary Kay makeup consultant in her younger years as well as later in life. Mary Lou’s passion for racing transferred to numerous family members. Bill’s cousins Mike and Bob Treso raced. All of their sons were involved with racing, as well as four of their grandsons: AJ, Matt, Chaz, and Tanner, and great grandchildren.
Mary Lou leaves to cherish her memory her five children: Bill and Toni Szecsodi, Mary Kay and Joe Thompson, Dave and Cheryl Szecsodi, Bob and Sue Szecsodi, and Teresa and Bob Pray; Brother, Bob and Vivian Brophy; Brother-in-law: Chuck Roy; Sister-in-law: Carol Yaklin. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents; Husband, Coleman William “Moose”, his parents, Siblings: Jim and Barb Brophy; Janet Roy, Karen Stead, Raymond Yaklin; Great granddaughter, Chloe Rose, and great grandson, Ronnie.
