Rodney Philip McEachern, a man devoted to God, his family and country, passed into eternal life February 14, 2022. He was born in Bay City, MI on Dec. 29, 1931, the son of Philip and Mona (Sharp) McEachern.
Rodney had served during the Korean War, stationed at a listening post in Alaska. Honorably discharged in 1956, he attended college at Michigan State University, earning a teaching degree and Phi Beta Kappa membership. He had retired from teaching, having spent his career with Lapeer Public Schools. Outside the classroom, he mentored many youth as Lapeer Senior High tennis coach and during many summer programs he devoted to the sport. He was elected to the Michigan Coaching Hall of Fame in 1991.
Rodney a dearly loved brother, father, grandfather and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by his beloved wife Jean E. (Taylor) McEachern after 60 years of marriage.
He is survived by his brother William McEachern of Minneapolis, MN and sister Diann Kinzer and her husband Bruce of Olathe, KS. Surviving children are Brian McEachern of Hudsonville, MI, Thomas and his wife Annette (Barkley) McEachern of Flint, MI, David and his wife Michele (Dixon) McEachern of Artesia, NM, Nina (McEachern) and her husband Mike Duffy of Shepherd, MI, and Malcolm and his wife Denise (Schumer) McEachern of Camdenton, MO. Rodney also leaves behind numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
We who miss him in this earthly life are forever grateful to Jesus we will one day be together again.
Friends may visit on Wednesday, Feb. 16th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lapeer. Pastor Grant Lobb will officiate. Rodney will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Friday, Feb. 18th at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carriage Town Mission, 605 Garland St. Flint, MI 48503
