PANKEY (WALDRON), Helen Colleen – Of Grand Blanc, age 97, died Saturday, April 9, 2022 at Hospice House of Shiawassee County.

Helen was born in Virginia, Minnesota on September 28 1924, the daughter of the late Earl and Helen (Helgeson) Waldron.

She attended McKinley School until the 9th grade and then went to Central High School in Flint, where she graduated in 1943.

She worked at Fisher Body in the production office until she left to attend Central Bible College. She graduated in 1947.

Helen also worked at AC Spark Plug during the summer while going to college from 1944-1945.

She attended Baker College in 1947 and then worked at State Farm Mutual Insurance.

Helen married Mirdeth “Bud” Pankey on October 15, 1949, and they had 3 children, Cheryl, Shannon and Brent.

After Helen worked at Fisher Body she was transferred to Ternstedt’s and worked there from 1952-55.

Helen also worked at Reid School in Grand Blanc.

At age 65, she started working at Marshall Fields/Macy’s and worked there until 2005 when she retired at age 80 in 2004.

Helen attended Riverside Tabernacle from the age of 7 in 1931. She was 3rd and 4th grade Sunday school teacher for many years. She played the trombone in the orchestra at Riverside Tabernacle and also at McKinley Central High School and at Bible College Band and Orchestra in Springfield, MO.

She was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader, as well as a Missionette Leader.

Helen’s hobbies included reading, traveling, scrapbooking, ceramics and many other activities.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mirdeth “Bud” Pankey; father, Earl Waldron; mother, Helen Waldron; sisters, Galethia Jakeway, Jacqueline Waldron and Kathleen Whipple; brother, Wesley Waldron and dear friend, Judy Carmody.

Helen in survived by her daughter, Cheryl (Wayne) Barres; their children, Nicole (Aaron) Ondusko and Michael Barres; her daughter, Shannon (Jim) Murchie; their children, Erin (Craig) Janicki and Julie (Ryan) Hensman; her son, Brent (Melanie) Pankey; their children, Matthew and Joshua; her brother, Douglas (Margo) Waldron and her sister, Janice Yuille.

Helen is also survived by best friends, Evelyn Vibbert, Bev and Jerry Bergler, Lillian Babba and Phyllis Baldwin.

Visitation 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the funeral home, Pastor Tom Mattiuzzo officiating.

Interment will follow at Crestwood Cemetery.
