CHENEY, F. Mac – of Flint, MI, age 86, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held 1 PM Sunday, July 28, 2024 at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Road, Davison, MI 48423; Rev. Robert D. Taylor officiating. Inurnment in Davison Cemetery on a later date. Family will receive visitors from 12 PM until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House Charities, in honor of Mac’s great-grandson, Ethan Cheney.
Mac was born in Flint, MI on June 10, 1937, son of the late James and Beulah (McNiel) Cheney. On October 26, 1962, Mac married the love of his life Virginia Root in Angola, IN. Mac retired from General Motors in 1994 after 32 years of service. He also served more than 56 years with Genesee Township Station 2 Fire Department, where 18 of those years he was the Fire Chief. Mac served as past president of the Mid-Michigan Antique Machinery Association and the Genesee County Association of Fire Chiefs where he also served as past president. He also was a charter member of the Genesee Valley Tractor Collectors Club. Mac enjoyed restoring and showing antique tractors. In addition to tractors, he also found joy riding snowmobiles, motorcycles, boating, gardening and spending time at his cabin Up North with his beloved family and friends.
Mac is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Virginia Cheney; 2 adoring children, Corey Cheney and Victoria (James) Hoganson; he was the greatest grandpa to, Aaron Cheney, Jeremy Schmiege, Nicole (Brandon) Eddy, Christopher Cheney, Jenny Cheney, Jayna (Vincent) Guigar, Christia (John) Houser, Baylee Hartman and Mallory Hartman; 6 great-grandchildren, Ethan Cheney, Vanessa Cheney, Trenton Catrell, Rielynn Catrell, Harrison Houser, Lennon Houser, Brooklyn Eddy, London Eddy, Hudson Schmiege; sister, Lynne Martin (deceased on July 12, 2024); many other loving family members and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Beulah Cheney; daughter, Kathleen Susan Cheney and half-brother, Duane Graczyk.
