Janet was born in Bay City, Michigan on December 22, 1942, the daughter of Theophile (Ted) and Isabelle Franek (Galganski). She married Thomas (Tom) Matuszewski on April 11, 1964 and they have been married for 58 years. Janet graduated from St. Stanislaus High School and later received her nursing degree from the Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Janet’s life was dedicated to unsel?shly serving others. She worked for 40+ years at McLaren Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the recovery room, and later on the IV Team.

After her retirement in 1999 (she continued working at McLaren until 2005). She continued serving others, helping take care of her grandchildren (who referred to her as Mia), cleaning the church and volunteering at the soup kitchen with Tom. Later in life, she helped take care of her elderly mother who lived to be 105. Family was always the most important part of Janet’s life.

As a child, Janet enjoyed summers at Higgins Lake in Northern Michigan and family weekends in Caseville. Janet, Tom and their three children also spent many enjoyable summers at her parent’s cottage at Higgins Lake. A new up-north tradition began with her own children and grandchildren at Blue Lake in Kalkaska and was dubbed “Matuszewski Weekend''. It always included an extremely boisterous game of Dominoes. Janet’s travels extended outside of Michigan. For over 20 years she and Tom spent the wintertime in Florida and made many good friends. In 2018 she and Tom journeyed to Italy, with her oldest daughter Julie, and her family. While there, a highlight of her trip was seeing Pope Francis appear from the balcony at St. Peter’s Square. Despite Janet’s fear of heights, she bravely ventured to the rooftop of the Milan Cathedral. In addition to enjoying travel, Janet was an avid reader and enjoyed relaxing on her deck with a good book.

Janet is survived by her husband Tom, her children and their spouses; Julie (Paul), Tim (Kristi), Jill (Jeff); grandchildren Rachel, Justin, Sean, Joshua, Anna and Brady; siblings Dorothy, Nancy, Sharon (Jim), Mary, Robert (Maria), and Debbie (Pat) and many nieces and nephews. Janet is preceded in death by her father Ted, mother Isabelle, and two brother-in-laws Donald Trim and Richard Mrozinski.
