Loretta is the 7th of fourteen children born to Jurl (Buck) Wofford and Sarah Lottie Wofford. She was born and grew up around the small rural communities of Round Pond and Widener, AR. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents and sisters - Carol Wafford, Lillie Wofford Nelson, Doris Wofford Hutcherson and brother Hal Wofford.
Loretta had a brilliant mind and after graduating with honors from Lincoln High School in 1967, attended Philander Smith College (HBCU) in Little Rock, AR. She graduated from college with honors and was also a member of Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society, and a Peace Corps volunteer. Loretta set an example of overcoming adversity and was the first sibling in her family to attend college inspiring her younger siblings and others to attend college as well.
In 1969 she met Fred Milow, who had just finished a tour of duty in the U.S. Army. They got married on Friday the 13th of October 1972. And from this union were three beautiful children who they cherished. Yolanda (Asakenya), Kwanza and Kere.
Loretta was a devoted wife, a very proud and protective mother, who adored her seven grandchildren and a great grandson immensely. She looked forward to fishing with the kids, family reunions, traveling on cruises with her sisters and spending time with family and friends.
Loretta leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Mr. Fred Milow, Flint, MI, daughter - Yolanda Asakenya Michele Milow, Stone Mt, GA, sons - Kwanza Ibn Milow, Canton, MS, Kere Nyaga (Maraline) Milow, Flint, MI. Seven grandchildren: Dijon Russell, Stone Mt, GA, Tashara Milow, Dallas TX, Alana Milow, New York, NY, Zaporah Milow-Watson, Houston, TX, Alayla Milow, Lansing, MI, Zion Milow, Canton, MS, Zahree Milow, Southaven, MS. and great grandson Nasir Hinkle, Dallas, TX.
Loretta also leaves to cherish her memory- an aunt, Viola Lottie Taylor, South Bend, IN; Three sisters: Mable (Louis) Brumfield of Milwaukee, WI., Dr. Dorothy Wofford Witherspoon and Janice Wofford of Kansas City, MO. Six Brothers: Jewel (Anna Marie) Wafford of St. Louis, MO., Herman (Mary) Wafford of Bowling Green, KY, Sterling (Clotis) Wafford and Gregory (Bernadine) Wafford of Dallas, TX., Joel (Mary) Wofford of King George, VA., and Carl (Michelle) Wofford of Lancaster, CA; and beloved nieces and nephews.
Loretta was short in stature but had a huge heart that joyfully loved all. She will be forever missed and cherished by family, friends, and all who knew her. |
