Bernard was born on January 1, 1941 in Davison, MI in the family home, son of Joseph and Hazel (Day) Burley. He was a graduate of Davison High School Class of 1959, served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from General Motors after 36 years. Bernard married Dorothy Sharpe on May 6, 1967. He dearly loved his family with his whole heart and was a friend to all who knew him. Since his retirement, he loved golfing at Kearsley Golf Course with all the guys in the “Over the Hill Gang” (his buddies). Plus, traveling to the south and southwest for 15 winters with his wife and made many new friends. At any time, he was ready for a good card game, poker, cribbage or Euchre. He always enjoyed volunteer work at the Red Cross, Buick Open, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Knights of Columbus and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where he cooked many dinners large and small over the years. Bernard has been a member of the Blessed Sacrament Men’s Club, Chevrolet Male Chorus, the Singing Knights and the church choir. He loved to sing the entire book of Christmas carols (44 pages) with his family every Christmas Eve. That was a special time for him.

Bernard is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Burley; daughter, Francine (Mark); son, Patrick (Tara); 6 grandchildren, Katrina, Karoline, Marissa, Mason, Cooper and Madelyn; mother-in-law, Isobel Sharpe; 2 sisters-in-law, Sandra Burley Robb and Mary (Mark) Lohse; 4 brothers-in-law, Steve (Lorie) Sharpe, Michael (Lisa) Sharpe, Bill Sharpe and Joe (Rhonda) Sharpe; many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Hazel Burley; 3 sisters, Deloras Wigard, Donna Hillaker and Alice Kotarski; 2 brothers, Douglas Burley and Robert Burley; father-in-law, Joseph Sharpe.

Many thanks to family and friends for all their kindness and caring ways during Bernard’s illness. Also, a big thank you to all his doctors and a very special thank you to Dr. Sayal.
