Passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at Genesys Health Park in Grand Blanc. Age 84 years. He was born on May 21, 1929 to the late George and Vera (Zelk) Lavery. He married Phyllis McKone on April 29, 1950, she survives him.
Joseph was a member of the North Flushing Baptist Church.
He celebrated 32 years of sobriety as a member of AA. Joseph enjoyed camping, deer hunting and fly fishing. He retired from General Motors in 1991.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis, daughters; Carol (Lynn) Cole of Montrose, JoAnn (Robert) Niblett of Trafford, Alabama, Kellie (Everett) Nicholas of National City, MI., a son, Asil (special friend Darlene) Lavery of Flushing, eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, three sisters and five brothers and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at North Flushing Baptist Church (7500 W. Mt. Morris Rd. Flushing, MI 48433). Rev. Bobby Price Jr. and Rev. Dale Lewis will officiate with burial in Montrose Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Whelpley-Martin Funeral Home in New Lothrop on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 11:00 am to 9:00 pm and at the Church on Saturday after 10:00 am.
Memorials are suggested to North Flushing Baptist Church.
