BAPPERT, James E. - Of Grand Blanc, age 67, died suddenly Monday, October 11, 2021 at his residence.

A Memorial Mass will be held 10am Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 11804 S. Saginaw St., Grand Blanc,

Father Leronio Vodivodi officiating.

Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Ele’s Place in Flint.

Visitation 9am Saturday at church until the time of the Mass.

James was born in St. Johns, Michigan on October 1, 1954, the son of John Raymond and Phyllis (Simon) Gilroy. On October 8, 2017, he married Jeanne McElheron-Pierce. Jim earned his Bachelors in Engineering and an MBA from Michigan State University. Jim was a project manager with Homeland Security. He loved all things Michigan State, and spending time with family who were the joys of his life. He loved cooking comfort food at gatherings and hosting friends and family at tailgates for Michigan State football games. He established a scholarship fund at East Lansing High School in his dearly departed wife’s name, Jodi Piper-Bappert. Jim was a founding member of the Flint Chapter of Ele’s Place, a healing center for grieving children and their families. For over 20 years, he was a distinguished member of the Grand Blanc City Council where he implemented countless community improvements that enriched the lives of Grand Blanc residents. Jim enjoyed golf, tennis, cooking, and was an all-around sports fan. He cherished a trip to Pebble Beach for the US Open with his three sons. Jim was a road warrior, enjoying his honeymoon road trip throughout the northeast, spent recent winters with his wife in Florida, and a recent vacation to the Upper Peninsula. His greatest achievement was his dedication to raising his three sons. Jim always prioritized spending quality time with his family.

Surviving are wife, Jeanne;

mother, Phyllis;

sons, John (Jace) and Breanne, James (J.P.) and Joseph (Joey);

step-daughters, Emily and Ashley; step-son Theodore (Teddy);

siblings, Teresa, Sharon, Kathy and Linda;

and 15 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jodi Piper-Bappert, father, John Bappert, mother and father-in-law, Wallace and Frances Piper and step-father, Robert Gilroy.
