BEHIL, MARY THERESE– Of Flushing, age 97, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2026.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11am Friday, April 24, 2026, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 1227 East Bristol Road, Burton.

Visitation will take place from 1-4pm and 5-8pm on Thursday April 23,2026. With a rosary held at 7pm, at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation at 10am on Friday until the time of the Mass at the church.

Burial to follow in New Calvary cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, North End Soup Kitchen or Genesee County Humane Society.

Mary was born in Flint, Michigan on August 23, 1928, the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary (Novota) Behil.

She graduated from Flint Northern High School and attended Flint Junior College.

Mary was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where she had been active in the Council of Catholic Women and a board member of the International Institute of Flint. She also held a lifelong membership in the First Catholic Slovak Union. She was proud of her Slovak heritage.

She retired from Walton Lumber Company.

Mary enjoyed traveling, antiques and antiquing, reading, playing dominoes and following the Detroit Tigers as well as Michigan State football and basketball. She especially enjoyed the many activities of her nieces and nephews and their children. She often attended their activities.

Mary is survived by her sister, Ann Chema; nieces and nephews, Patricia(Dwight)Holloway, Michael (Susan) Orlicek, Phyllis (Dale) Colclasure, Stephen (Phyllis) Orlicek, Gregory Orlicek, Roseanne (Jesse) Jones, Teresa (Douglas) Hansen, Jeffry (Janet) McArthur, Nancy (Michael) Smorch, Mark (Denise) Nester, Julie Nester, Kathleen (Dan)Pohlman, Andrew S. (Charlene) Nester, Michelle (James) Karl, Michael Chema and Thomas (Janice) Chema and many great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Helen Nester, Rose McArthur and Matilda Orlicek; nephew, James C. Holloway and three great nieces and nephews, Patrick Orlicek, Natalia Nester and Christine Hansen.

The family is grateful for Mary’s Hospice nurse Sheila (Absolute Hospice) for the excellent and loving care she provided. A special thanks goes out to Casey and Sam and the entire staff at Vicinia Gardens who loved and cared for Mary throughout her stay there.
