Ruth Fern Cox of Richfield Township, age 98, died Saturday July 1, 2023, at Hurley Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday July 7, 2023, at Hansen Funeral Home Groves Chapel, Downtown Davison. Rev. Thomas Wachterhauser officiating; private burial will follow at Richfield Union Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am Friday until the time of services. Ruth was born in Thetford Township, Michigan on May 8, 1925, the daughter of the late Earl and Elvira (Morrow) Munsell and had resided in Richfield Township most of her life. She was joined in marriage to Kenneth S. Hemingway in December 1945 and he tragically died in October 1948. She later married John “Jack” Cox on October 11, 1952, in Mt. Morris, Michigan and he preceded her in death in April 1990. She was a fierce independent woman, who loved to mow her lawn and maintain her gardens. She loved to quilt and needlepoint and spent time working on numerous puzzles. Ruth loved to travel and always enjoyed a trip to the Casinos, but her real love was her family and especially her loving grandchildren. She had been employed by General Motors AC Spark Division for over thirty years, retiring in 1985 and was a proud UAW member.
Surviving are son John and wife Connie (Palmer) Hemingway, grandchildren: Jacob and wife Janelle Beren, Michelle Yambrick, and great grandson Jonathon Beren. She also leaves a host of extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by daughter Cynthia “Cindy” Beren in July 2017 and brother Arnold Munsell. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Hurley Medical Center, Briarwood Convalescent Center, Valley Area on Aging (KISS program) and Dr. Asif Ishaque MD (and his staff) for their care and compassion during this time.
