Kress, Roy Thompson, Jr. age 87, died Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Hurley Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery.
Roy was born in Harrison, Michigan on June 17, 1935, the son of Roy Thompson and Verda (Cole) Kress, Sr. He graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Michigan in 1953. While in high school, Roy served in the Naval Reserves and later served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1958-1960. He married Jenny Armstrong in Flushing, Michigan on December 7, 1957. Roy worked as an Agent and Sales Manager for Life of Virginia for 34 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member and past president of the Flint Life Under-writers Association. Roy was an avid sportsman and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. He played baseball and track in high school; baseball and softball in the Army; and blooper ball and Senior softball for more than 30 years. Roy played in 16 World Senior Games in St. George, Utah.
He was a collector of many antiques, including Michigan license plates and belonged to the Michigan License Plate Collectors Association where he was Treasurer for 30 years. Among his many collections beside license plates were toys, mannequins, wagons, bikes, trikes and sleds. He also belonged to the Flushing Area Historical Society, the Montrose Historical Society and the Maron Historical Society.
Surviving him are his wife, Jenny; one daughter Kimberly; brothers Edward of Davis, California and Conrad and wife Bonita Kress of Arcadia, Florida; several nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Judith Mitchell; and niece, Karen.
