Billy Ray Morgan, age 85, went to be with the Lord on August 17, 2026.
Billy was born on June 27, 1941, in Empire, Alabama, to Will and Elladean (Miller) Morgan. He was the oldest of five children and is survived by his brother, Ben Mathews (Linda), and his sister, Patricia Burpee. He entered the National Guard in 1956 and later joined the United States Army, proudly serving his country in Germany until 1960. On December 6, 1960, Billy married his childhood sweetheart, Rita (Robinson) Morgan. For 65 years, Billy and Rita shared a lifetime of love, devotion, and memories together. Side by side, they built a beautiful life together.
Billy and Rita were blessed with their “3½ children”: Pamela Papiez (Paul), Billy Taft Morgan (Sonya), Wynell Guziak (Jake), and Tanya Abbott (Bill). His family continued to grow to include seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him tremendous pride and joy. He also leaves behind his beloved canine companion, Calli. Billy began working for General Motors in 1962, where he remained until his retirement in 1999. A hardworking man throughout his life, Billy was happiest when he was using his hands. He was always building, fixing, creating, or working on something.
Billy lived a simple life filled with the things that mattered most. He was kind and generous, but above all else, he was a family man. Nothing made him prouder than the people he loved, and anyone who spent much time with Billy was sure to hear him brag about his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never met a stranger and loved visiting with people and sharing stories. Billy had a wonderful sense of humor and could always be counted on for a joke and a laugh. He also had a special gift for writing poetry and enjoyed putting his thoughts and feelings into poems. Billy leaves behind more than the things he built with his hands. He leaves behind a family he helped build with a lifetime of love, laughter, stories, hard work, and memories.
His absence will be deeply felt, but the stories he told, the laughter he created, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave will continue through the generations that follow him.
Billy Ray Morgan will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched and forever loved by the family he was so proud to call his own.
