GRIEVE, Della L. (Hicks) – of Flushing, formerly of Flint, age 94, died peacefully Sunday, September 24, 2023, at Regency of Grand Blanc. Honoring her wishes, cremation will be taking place. A Celebration of Life will be held for both Della and her late husband, Robert, at 2PM Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. Pastor Carol Freeland officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Saturday from 11AM until the time of celebration at 2PM. Della and Robert will be laid to rest together in Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Crossover Outreach in Flint.
Della was born January 14, 1929, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Nelson and Anna (Stevenson) Hicks. She graduated from Flint Northern High School with the class of 1947. Della had an incredibly strong work ethic throughout her life, beginning at the age of 4 when she began working on her family farm in Deford delivering milk with her sisters and brothers. She married the love of her life, Robert Grieve on May 7, 1949, they enjoyed 74 wonderful years together before Robert preceded her in death on June 13, 2023. Della was a member of Community Presbyterian Church in Flint. She enjoyed puzzles, all types of games – especially, Boggle, traveling, animals, and researching her ancestry. Della also enjoyed tending to the beautiful garden her and Robert created together. She was a wonderful cook and made the best raspberry and apple pies. Above all, Della loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished her time with them. She will be truly missed by all.
Surviving are: Daughter, Jane (Mark) Smith; Grandchildren: Heather Grieve, Matthew Smith (Patricia), and Joel Smith; Great Grandchildren: Lucas Grieve and Isaac Grieve - and their mother, Sara Grieve; Several nieces, nephews, extended family, and wonderful friends. Della was also preceded in death by: Grandson, Jeff Grieve; Twin sister, Donna LaRoche; Sisters: Evelyn Seymour and Marion Waxell; Brothers: Andrew Hicks, Lloyd Hicks, and Neil Hicks.
