Ralph Wayne Hammer, passed away at his home on September 14, 2021.
Ralph was born in Greenville, Illinois on August 27, 1927, to Walter and Bessie (Riggs) Hammer. He was one of five brothers and one sister. All have proceeded him in death. Ralph was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army from 1946-1948.
After his basic training in Virginia,he was sent to Okinawa in the Pacific. Ralph was a graduate of Greenville College where he met his first wife, Florence "Ricky" Mae Goodrich. They married in September 1950, and moved to Cooperville, Michigan where he taught school and coached football and baseball. They late rmoved to Davison, Michigan in 1955, and resided there for 22 years. They had three sons, Ralph II, Jeff and Steve.
Ralph attended Michigan State University in their Master's program of economics and was a huge Spartan fan- GO GREEN!
Ralph worked for General Motors for 34 years and retired from their Parts Division in 1987. He was an auditor and payroll supervisor.
He married Vera Pearl Logsdon in May 1978, and they resided in Flushing, Michigan. She had one son, John. Ralph was blessed with five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was a long standing member of Flushing United Methodist Church.
Born a "St. Louis Cardinal" and passed a "Detroit Tiger". He will be greatly remembered and greatly missed.
Services are at Rossell Funeral Home in Flushing, Michigan. Visitation is Friday, September 17, 2021, from 2pm-8pm and Saturday 11am-12pm. Funeral service will be at Noon on Saturday, September 18, 2021, with burial to follow. |
