Rena “Sammy” Caroline Ocenasek, of Flushing, Michigan, age 91, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023, at Medilodge of Montrose. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Rossell Funeral Home. Pastor Sarah LaRose-Nettell will officiate. Burial to follow at Flushing Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of the service. A larger Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Rena was born in Bay Shore, Michigan on October 31, 1931, to George and Marion Barber. She moved to Flushing when she was 12 years old and remained a resident the rest of her life. She married Stanley Ocenasek at St. Robert Catholic Church on April 14, 1951, and he preceded her in death February 23, 2015. She retired as a bus driver from Flushing Schools and had many hobbies. Rena was creative and crafty, she liked knitting and crocheting Afghan blankets and scarves, China painting, and flower arranging. Every spring she enjoyed going mushroom hunting with relatives. Rena cared deeply about everyone around her and loved being helpful.
She is survived by her children Steven (Lynn) Ocenasek and Kimberlie Napoli; granddaughter, Janie Brynolf; and bother, Nelson (Sharon) Barber. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; many siblings; and her parents. |
