Donna Jean Matchett (nee Gullstrand), previously Donna Jean Martin, age 69, of Clio, Michigan, passed away alongside her children, after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease, on October 17, 2022.
Donna Matchett grew up and raised her family in Clio, Michigan. She graduated from Clio
High School in 1971 and entered the workforce. Donna established and grew her own
cleaning business and became certified in cosmetology. She fostered her skills by running
her own salon from which she retired years later. She was no stranger to hard work and
was a self-made business woman who impressed many.
Donna was known to those closest to her as an avid horse lover, endearing friend, and
loving family woman. As a young girl, Donna was involved in the equestrian lifestyle,
volunteering her time helping out on a local farm, later becoming a 4H leader, and showing
horses with her children. This passion was carried throughout the course of her life, and
she spent much of her time in her adult years with her beloved horse, Secura Sunrise,
whom she spoke of fondly and frequently. Donna loved spending time with her family and
friends and enjoyed daily outings shopping or exploring. Whether it be local shops, a
nature trail, or an amusement park, she most enjoyed the time spent with family and
friends. Donna especially cherished her special bond with her grandson, Julian, and the
time they spent exploring nature, doing arts and crafts, and cuddling.
Donna is survived by her children: Robert W. Martin of Laughlin, NV, Brett Martin and
Brooke Polcik of Frankenmuth, MI, and Maggie Martin and Jared Hartig of Decatur, TN;
grandchildren: Robert M. Martin and Breanna Jordan of Westville, IL, Julian Martin-Hartig
of Decatur, TN, Gwenyth and Grace Polcik of Frankenmuth, MI, and one great-grandchild:
Mason R. Martin of Westville, IL; siblings, Linda (Paul) Houdek of Berwyn, IL, and Cheryl
Gullstrand of La Habra, CA; nephew, Bryce Loll (Stacia Arnold) Atascadero, CA; and kitty:
Petunia (Tunie). Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Matchett, and her parents,
Kenneth and Dorothy Gullstrand.
Cremation services were placed in the hands of O’Guinn Funeral home in Clio, MI.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 21st from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, October
22nd from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. with a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. and luncheon to
follow at Lucky’s Steakhouse in Clio. |
