Died: 9/4/2025
Age: 82
Community: Rose City, MI

Richard Duane Martin, affectionately known as Rick to his friends and family, passed away after a short battle with cancer on September 4, 2025, in Rose City, Michigan. Born on March 6, 1943, in West Branch, Michigan, Rick's life was marked by his unwavering strength, kindness, and a spirit of adventure that was as vast as the great outdoors he so loved.

Rick was a proud graduate of Beecher High School, class of 1962. His passion for his country and excellence led him to join the Marines immediately after graduation, where he earned expert marksmanship, recognized as the most accurate shot in his platoon. His dedication to service didn't end there; Rick later served as an Army Drill Sergeant, imbuing new soldiers with the skills and discipline necessary for military life.

Upon returning from the Marines, Rick took a position at General Motors Truck and Bus, where he was respected for his work ethic and camaraderie until his early retirement at the age of 48. Retirement was not a time of rest for Rick but rather an opportunity to pursue his passions and share his generous spirit.
Rick lived his faith through his actions, offering kindness and support to those around him. He was a master of the great outdoors, an avid hunter and fisherman who knew nature's rhythms and secrets. His skills as a Master Angler and longbow hunter were unparalleled, and his adventures spanned from tracking deer with his legendary dachshund, Squirt, to successfully hunting a variety of game, including moose, elk, and even a bear. He was an active member of the United Blood Trackers Association, Michigan Deer Tracking Network and a member of the Michigan Longbow Association

Family was the cornerstone of his life. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Karen Martin, his son Gregory Martin, and his sister Sonya Illig. His legacy continues through his daughter Lillian (Robert) Miller, his sister Vickie Whitney, his granddaughters Katrina Pinchock and Stacey Morrow, and his seven great-grandchildren, who will always remember his love of animals and his green thumb for gardening. He also leaves behind his special nephew Bryan (Deborah) Illig and niece Shannon Kline, who will carry forward his love for family and nature.

Rick Martin will be remembered as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who knew him. His stories of adventure and lessons of life will be cherished and retold by those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his journey. As a true outdoorsman, Rick found peace in the natural world, and now, he rests peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of courage, generosity, and kindness that will continue to inspire for generations to come.
