Henry, Betty Jo (Cowden) of Flushing, died peacefully surrounded by family on October 9, 2021. Funeral services will be 12 noon at Rossell Funeral Home. Rev. Joseph Novak will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Thursday until the time of the service at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to P.O.R.T. Pediatric Oncology Resource Team at the Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
Betty was born in Flint, Michigan on August 5, 1928, the second of three children of Joseph E. and Maude D. (Carson) Cowden. Betty graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1946. She married her high school sweetheart, S. Patrick Henry, in Flint on September 8, 1950. Betty was a devoted daughter, wife, and mother, raising her three children, Mark, Keith, and Denise, at their home in Flint and later Flint Township. Throughout her life, she ensured that the bills were paid, people had enough to eat, and everyone’s bags were packed before their many family vacations.
Betty is survived by her husband of of 71 years, S. Patrick Henry; children, Mark (Laura) Henry of Rush, NY, Keith (Robin) Henry of Clio, Denise (Kevin) Kirbitz of Grand Blanc; grandchildren, Michael (Christine) Kirbitz, Kellie (Samuel) Joyce, Jared Henry, and Taylor Henry; sister, Rosalie Goethe; brother and sister-in-law, James Richard (Nancy) Henry. She was preceded in death by her brother and sister-in-law, Edward J. “Bud” (Joyce) Cowden, and brother-in-law, Alfred J. Goethe.
