Dr. John Herman Siefert, age 77, formerly of Grand Blanc, Michigan, went to be with his Savior on March 20, 2021. Though our family grieves, we are confident that we will see John again, through God's promise of salvation through Jesus Christ.
John, the eldest son of Dr. H. Jack and Barbara Siefert, was born on February 29, 1944 in Palo Alto, CA. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area where, at 16 years of age, he met his future bride, Marianne (then 15) through church camp. John graduated from Oakland Tech High School in 1961.
John continued his education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from Albion College (MI) and a PhD in Chemistry from Wayne State University. John found his work-related passion in forensic science and led the Narcotics unit for the Michigan State Police Crime Labs. Through his work, he trained and mentored young scientists and developed the training and procedure manuals for his unit.
The other passion of John’s was serving in the church. He worked with youth groups, taught Sunday School and parenting classes, and served as a staff-parish chairman and elder.
John had many interests. He loved spending time at Flathead Lake, in Montana, where he would waterski, fish, and hike to discover new lakes and streams. John also loved camping, walking on Michigan's beaches, and visiting lighthouses and national parks. He was an avid gardener and woodworker, building furniture and carving decorative duck decoys. His true joy, however, was spending time with his family, church family, and his Lord and Savior.
Dr. John Siefert leaves behind his beloved wife of 53 years, Marianne E. Siefert of Carmel, IN, sons Mark Siefert (and Amy) of Flint, Michigan, and Greg Siefert (and Sara) of Noblesville, IN. He leaves four granddaughters: Charis, Kiana, Thalia and Brielle, whom he adored. He also leaves his siblings: Karen of Walnut Creek, CA, Cheryl of Golden, CO, and Paul of Palm Bay, FL.
John would say that the most important decision of his life was when he came to Christ through Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU). Therefore, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider making a donation to Noblesville CRU.
