GRANT, Carol J. – of Montrose, age 95, died on Wednesday February 23, 2022, at Taylor Lodge in Clio. Honoring her wishes, cremation will be taking place. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held at the Montrose United Methodist Church on May 7, 2022, at 2PM for family and friends. A private committal with the family will be held May 7, 2022 at Montrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill Outdoor Center, 4654 Pleasant Hill Rd, Perrysville, OH., 48864, where her grandson is the director.

Carol was born April 25, 1926, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Morris and Margaret (Thorsby) Helfrich. She graduated from Montrose High School in 1944 and later graduated from Hurley School of Nursing in 1945. She married Elmer Grant on July 3, 1946. She was a faithful member of the Montrose United Methodist Church where she served as the organist for many years. In 1979, she and Elmer moved to Palmetto, Florida. Carol was a unit manager at Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Florida for 25 years before retiring in 2009. She and Elmer were very active in Trinity United Methodist where they sang in the choir for 33 years. He preceded her in death on January 29, 2013, after 67 years of marriage. Carol was also a member and Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star – Montrose Chapter #351. She enjoyed bike riding on Jekyll Island in Georgia, and trips to the Upper Peninsula. – especially their cabin in Shingleton. Carol also enjoyed canoeing, fishing and sunbathing at the beach. She was very adventurous, willing to try anything once. She had a quick wit and was a great cook. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are: Sons: Harold Grant, and Richard (Sally) Grant; Grandchildren: Matthew (Amy) Grant, and Ryan (Lindsey) Grant; Great grandchildren: Cowen Grant, Asa Grant, Emmie Grant, Lucas Savalli, Ben Grant, and Nolan Grant; Brother, James Helfrich; Several loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Carol was also preceded in death by: Daughter, Patricia Grant; Sister, Reva Helfrich and Sister in law, Betty Helfrich. The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Taylor Lodge, and the Medical Team Hospice – especially, Joleen Stepanski for all the love and care they provided.
