SEXTON, GEORGIE “MILDRED” – Of Flushing, age 95, died Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at Sunflower Senior Care.
Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2023 at South Flint Tabernacle, G-3450 Saginaw Street, Burton, Bishop Robert E. Henson officiating,
Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery.
Those desiring may make contributions to South Flint Tabernacle.
Visitation 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Mrs. Sexton will be at the church from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of the service.
Georgie was born in Rogers springs, Tennessee on December 28, 1927, the daughter of the late George and Maudie Harris.
On October 28, 1948 she married Garland R. Sexton and he preceded her in death on June 28, 2008.
She was a member of South Flint Tabernacle.
Mrs. Sexton worked for JC Penney’s in the 1970’s.
Mildred was a kind, Christian lady and a friend to all. She was a devoted wife, sister, mother and grandmother, who served faithfully alongside her husband at South Flint Tabernacle for many years. She retired from JC Penney after working 16 years in the Catalog department where her friendly, kind and sweet demeanor was a bright light. She never stopped missing her beloved husband after he departed this life and she joined him in eternal rest on the 15th anniversary (to the day), of his passing.
Surviving are daughter, Mary Frances Lucas;
son, Garland, Jr. (Rebecca) Sexton;
6 grandchildren, Reverend Jonathan (Christy) Lucas,
Jeremy Lucas, Jordan Lucas, Cheri Sexton, Nathan (Vanessa) Sexton and Rebekah (Brad) Saunders;
7 great-grandchildren;
1 great-great-granddaughter;
2 sisters, Ruby Cox and Donnie Eubanks;
1 brother, James Harris;
several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Louise Durham and Earlene Stone; brother, George L. Harris; daughter-in-law, Cynthia L. Sexton and son-in-law, Reverend Edward Lee Lucas.
