MURPHY, Algie W. - Age 79, of Gaines, died Monday, December 16, 2019. Visitation will be held Sunday, December 22 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Monday, December 23 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road, 8138 Miller :Road, Swartz Creek. Burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly. Those desiring may make contributions to the League of Michigan Bicyclists.
Algie was born January 3, 1940 in Flint, the son of Algie W. and Donna E. (Phillips) Murphy. He was a graduate of Flint Central High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. Algie retired from GM Chevrolet V-8 Engine Plant. Algie was an avid bicyclist. He was a long time member and past president of the Genesee Wanderers Cycling Club. Algie enjoyed riding DALMAC every Labor Day weekend and riding with his family and friends on the National 24 Hour Challenge on Father's Day weekend. During his countless rides through Genesee and Shiawassee Counties, he could always be counted on to stop at a local restaurant for a bite to eat.
Surviving are: son, Allen (Carla) Murphy of Flushing; daughter, Alison (Larry Noller) Murphy of Downers Grove, IL; grandchildren, Noah, David, and Grace Murphy and Thomas and Sean Noller; nephew, Phillip (Patti) Murphy, Jr. of Flint; and niece, Laura (Murphy) Roberts of Grand Blanc. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Phillip Murphy. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. |
