José enjoyed spending time at the East Side Senior Center, where he led the Pledge of Allegiance. He was compassionate and forgiving. His life was devoted to service and for many years, he visited nursing homes to pray and comfort the ill and lonely residents. Due to his own disability, José knew the healing power of a smile and a gesture acknowledging someone in need and freely offered those small, yet powerful gifts.
José is survived by his 4 siblings, Celia Perez-Booth, Ernesto (Onnalee) Perez, Antonio (Diane) Perez and Beatrice Perez; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, other loving family members and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilario and Rita Perez; brother, Jesus Perez and brother-in-law, Douglas Booth.
