Rosie was born in Flint, Michigan on September 6, 1928, the daughter of the late Russell and Juel Foley. She was raised and lived in Flint her entire life, of which she was very proud to be a part of “Old Flint”. Attending downtown Flint’s St. Michael’s School from first through 12 grades, listening to the church’s magnificent Anelis bell tower was an everyday event. During her high school days, she was a member of the “Mighty 12” – close knit group of girls who socialized together and remain friends for a lifetime, giving her a peaceful source of many treasured memories.

After graduating from St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana with a degree in Sociology: Rosie landed employment with Flint’s Mott Foundation, serving as community counselor for seven Flint Schools. In November of 1955, Rosie married Harry “Bud” Bigelow at St. Matthew’s Flint.
Rosie and Bud always believed and valued family but after raising five children for 17 years, Rosie felt the desire to return to the work force to fulfill her compassion in the community.

She joined the Carmen-Ainsworth Community School Federal program serving as Health and Social Services Coordinator in the Head Start program. Again, she met a group of lifelong friends who she treasured many memories.

Rosie was also involved in many social groups including, St. Mary’s Notre Dame Alumni Club, Junior League, Fugari Tribe, Bridge Club, St. Pius School Board, Red Cross, St. Cecilia, Needlework Guild and Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians. Rosie was very proud of her Irish Heritage and was honored to be chosen as “Irish Mother of the Year” in 2002.

Retired years were enjoyed by traveling the world, spending summers at their cottage on Lake Huron and hosting the Bigelow Olympics.

Surviving are her children and grandchildren, Julie (Ron, Katherine, Rosellen) VanCura of Fenton, Harry Towers IV (Colleen, Mary Rose, Harry Towers V, Sean) of West Palm Beach, FL, Betty Bigelow of Kalamazoo, Suzie Hlavach (Mike, Jack) of Grand Blanc, and Pattie (JoJo, Molly, Sarah) O’Sullivan of Norwalk, CT, will continue to carry on the value of Family and Irish Traditions. Rosie is survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. They will miss her greatly. All who knew and loved Rosie, felt she was one of the most truly beautiful souls of all time, inside and out, kind, fun to be with and ALWAYS made you feel like one of the family.
