Richard “Ric” C. Hinds passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on Monday, November 22nd, surrounded and sheltered in the love of his family. He was born on April 5, 1949, in Evanston, Illinois to C. Thomas and Maryann Hinds. He was a graduate of Devilbiss High School and attended The University of Toledo. He will be remembered fondly as a loving father, grandfather and friend for his infectious smile, sense of humor, love of family – especially his grandchildren – as well as his love of music. He spent his spare time as an avid sportsman and athlete. He played softball, tennis, golf and flag football most of his life. Ric treasured the holiday season, family get-togethers, a themed Christmas tree and Thanksgiving football.
Ric was preceded in death by his father and grandparents, aunts and uncles and his god mother, Blanche. Left to cherish his memory are his children: son, Corey Hinds; daughter, Jennifer (Chris) Lewis; grandchildren: Catelynn and Carter; step-grandchildren Kirsten, CJ and Chandler; mother, Maryann Hinds; brothers, Thomas of Toledo, Timothy (Joyce) of Stillman Valley, IL.; sisters, Cindy (Jack) Babel of Bartlet, IL. and Lili Hinds (He will be sorely missed by sister, Lili, who was by his side the last 7 months of his journey); nieces, Wendy, Michelle, Kelly, Lindsay and nephew, Aaron; great-nieces, Bailey, Melanie and Kayla; life-long friends, Jim Horton and Barb Lump.
At Ric’s request, funeral services will be private. Ric’s family invites his many friends and colleagues to join them to celebrate a life too short but well lived, on Sunday, November 28th, from 2 til 6 p.m., at the Washington Township Fire and Rescue Dept. on 2469 Shoreland Ave. for a brief service followed by a Jimmy Buffet themed remembrance.
We would like to give many thanks to the nurses who helped in his care the last days of his life at the Toledo Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in care of the Cleveland Clinic Myeloma Fund, P. O. Box 931517, Cleveland, OH. 44193, in Ric’s name.
