MONTPAS, Dorothea Viola - Age 99, of Swartz Creek, died Saturday, April 5, 2014. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, April 10, 2014 at St. Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Swartz Creek, Fr. Dan Kogut celebrant. Burial will follow immediately in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Flint. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek Wednesday from 2-8 PM and at church Thursday from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. A vigil service will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 7:00 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to St. Vincent DePaul or the hospice or charity of your choice.
Mrs. Montpas was born July 24, 1914 in Hancock, the daughter of Elzear and Eva (Houle) Ethier. She married John Montpas May 1, 1937 in Flint and he preceded her in death June 2, 1958. She had resided in Swartz Creek since 1985 after moving from Flint. Mrs. Montpas was a member of St. Mary Queen of Angels and the Daughters of Isabella.
Surviving are 9 children: Mary Krupa of Davison, John (Phyllis) Montpas of Flint, Norman (Shirley) Montpas of Fenton, Edwin (Patricia) Montpas of Fenton, Clara (Dennis) Feuerstein of Gladwin, Maurice (Judy) Montpas of Fenton, Jerome (Debbie) Montpas of Flint, William (Debbie) Montpas of Flint, and Denise (Mark) Fink of Millington; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; 2 great-great granddaughters; and son-in-law, Marlin Princing of Lapeer. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dorthea Marie Princing; 3 brothers, Harvey, Norman, and Joseph Ethier; and 3 sisters, Lorraine Durocher, Loretta Kent, and Dorothy Montpas.
