GILLARD, JOHN JOSEPH – Of Burton, age 69, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 26, 2024 at McLaren-Flint.
Visitation 11 a.m. and Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Monday, December 30, 2024 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road.
Cremation will take place following the service.
Those desiring may make contributions to the family for funeral expenses.
John was born February 18, 1955 in Bay City, Michigan, the son of the late Bertram and Lorna (Ancel) Gillard.
John was the second of 8 children and marched to the beat of his own drum.
John married Sandi Phillips-Gillard on Aug 12, 1989 in Bay City at St. Mary’s, and they had spent 35yrs together.
Surviving John is his wife, Sandi;
children, Nikki (Chris) Carpenter and Angie (Nick) Ponlamuangsri and Jimmy Redmond;
three grandsons, Josh, Joe and Frank;
siblings, Mark (Kathy), Tom (Peggy), Anne Marie, Ken (Kathie), Barb (Steve) and Patty;
God daughters, Melissa and Krystal; many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Lorna and Bertram; brother, Paul; nephew, Joe and niece, Nicole.
John will be remembered for being a great thinker, having an immeasurable love for his family, babies, playing cards, art, martial arts, music and hiking. John never met a stranger. When you see a tree, Smile and think of John.
Special thank you to McLaren 5th floor ICU nurses who cared for him during his stay and to Fr. Joseph J. Krupp for coming to prepare John for his journey.
