Dorothy “Dodie” Elaine Guidos, a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother (Nana), great-grandmother, sister, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully October 18, 2026, at the age of
93, surrounded by the love of a family she spent her life nurturing.
Born on May 31, 1933, Dodie lived a life filled with faith, family, kindness, and unconditional love. She became a Catholic as an adult, and her faith and dedication to the Lord guided her throughout her life. She was a wonderful example of strength, generosity, compassion, and selflessness, always putting the needs of others before her own.
In 1953, Dodie married the love of her life, Robert Guidos, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in
Burton, MI. Together for 65 years, they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and love, raising three sons, Greg, Gary, and Dave.
Dodie worked for many years as a secretary at General Motors, stayed at home during her sons’ formative years, then at Holy Rosary High School as the school secretary for 14 years until its closing. She was very active at Holy Rosary church and taught catechism for many years.
She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel special, welcomed, and loved. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, wonderful meals, and treasured memories. Whether preparing holiday dinners, baking her famous desserts or sharing favorite recipes, she made sure everyone had something delicious to eat. She was a loyal friend, a wonderful listener, and someone who could always be counted on for kindness, encouragement, and a helping hand. Nana especially cherished time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed family vacations, camping trips, birthdays, supporting her boys’ football games, bowling, reading, playing cards and going to the casino. Christmas was always special because of the joy and magic she created for the family and everyone was always welcome.
Dodie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Guidos; parents, George Harold Chambers and Ellen Rubendall, John David and Vivian Sheldon; sisters, Winnie Campbell, Barbara Green, and Diane Chappel; brothers, George Chambers and John David; and her daughter-in-law, Deb Guidos.
She is survived by three sons, Greg (Mary) Guidos, Gary (Anne) Guidos, and Dave (Tara) Guidos; five granddaughters, Lindsay (Matt) Shirkie, Amy (Quinn) Schara, Amanda (Tim) Byron, Alyssa (Joel) Langton, and Abbie (Nate) Guidos; and seven great-grandchildren, Brooke Schara, Payton Langton, Bennett Schara, Avery Langton, Macy Byron, Isabelle Shirkie and Will Schara; one brother, Denny (Barbara) David.
Her family will forever remember her strength and resilience, faith, kindness, and loving others without condition. Her legacy lives on not only in the family she raised, but in the love, traditions, and memories that will continue for generations.
