RAU, Joseph Gilbert – Of Flint, age 85, died Friday, August 5, 2022 at his residence.
Funeral service will be held 11am Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Lamb of God Lutheran Church, 2051 West Maple Avenue, Flint, MI 48507.
Visitation 3-8pm Monday, August 22, 2022 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint. Visitation 10am Tuesday at church until the time of the service.
Joseph Gilbert Rau, born to the late Eileen and Joseph Rau in Flint, Michigan on May 27th 1937. He graduated from Central High School in 1957, where he went on to work for General Motors Chevrolet Manufacturing Company for over 30 years. Joseph was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his best friend Connie Rau on September 7th 1979. They enjoyed their life with three children Bill Whitehead, Randy Rau, and Yvonne Rau. Joe and Connie were proud and active members of the Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Flint, Michigan.
Joe's love of cars didn't stop at the shop. He enjoyed going to car shows, and being a member of the Script A Model A Club where he would show off his own prized Model A car. Joseph and his wife Connie enjoyed their winters spent out in Arizona where they attended the Crown of Life Church of Sun City West. He was an active Rock Hounds member and enjoyed his time in the lapidary club where he would go on to make beautiful jewelry for his family and friends. Joseph was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, snowmobiling and just being in the great outdoors. Joseph was a handyman who could get it done, and would gladly help anyone that needed it. Joseph is survived by; wife Connie Rau, son Bill Whitehead (wife Kim), son Randy Rau (wife Laura), 9 grandkids,11 great-grandkids, sisters Pat Bolen, Marian Ferrel, Kathleen Heddon and brother James Rau. He was preceded in death by parents, grandparents and daughter Yvonne Rau. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Lamb of God Lutheran Church of Flint, Michigan.
