GROSHEK, Monsignor Richard - Of Fenton, age 86, died Monday, September 4, 2023 at Vicinia Gardens in Fenton.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11am Friday, September 8, 2023 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 North Adelaide, Fenton,
Bishop Earl Boyea presiding.
Burial in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation 1-8pm Thursday at church and 10am Friday at church until the time of the Mass. A Scripture Service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the church. (All visitation will be held at church).
Contributions may be made to Powers Catholic High School or Catholic Charities.
Richard was born in Flint, Michigan on November 5, 1936, the son of the late Michael and Pauline Groshek. He was Baptized on November 22, 1936 at All Saints in Flint.
Richard was Ordained to the Priesthood: June 2, 1962, by the Most Reverend Joseph H. Albers at St. Mary Cathedral, Lansing
His Assignments were as Parochial Vicar at St Joseph, Battle Creek June 1962 to June 1965, St Mary, Flint June 1965 to July 1969; St John, Benton Harbor July 1969 to Sept 1969.
Richard did his Post Graduate Studies at Catholic University of America Sept 1969 to June 1971; Curia, Associate Director, Community and Social Service, Lansing June 1971 to June 1973; Director, Community and Social Service, Lansing June 1973 to July 1984.
Richard was Administrator at St Ann, Bellevue Feb 1976 to June 1984, St James, Mason July 1984 to June 1985, St Pius X, Flint June 1985 to March 1986.
He was Pastor at St Pius X, Flint March 1986 to June 2006; Vicar Forane: Vicar, Genesee/Owosso Nov 1993 to Dec 1996 and Named Prelate of Honor by Pope Saint John Paul II, with title Monsignor: Mar 1998; Curia: Vicar General June 1998 to Aug 2014
Vicar Forane: Vicar, Genesee/Owosso Feb 2002 to June 2006; Senior Priest Status: June 2006 to Sept 2023; Administrator: St Mary, Swartz Creek Jan 2008 to Feb 2008; Curia: Vicar for Clergy Oct 2008 to Aug 2014; Vicar for Senior Priests Aug 2014 to Oct 2018.
Surviving are sisters-in-law, Patricia and Ann Groshek;
nieces and nephews, Mark (Carl) Groshek, Barbara (Jeff) Ver Steeg, Paul (Melissa) Groshek, Lisa (David) Keirsted, Mary (Ken) Burns and Michael Groshek;
great nieces and nephews, Cassidy, Tyler, Alexa, Georgia, Julia, Brett, Nathaniel, Andrew, Cameron and William
great-great nieces, Eviana and Ezra.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, Garret Groshek, sister, Madeline Harahan and brothers, Norman and Michael Groshek.
