GRIEVE, Pamela Kay - of Birch Run, age 73, unexpectedly made her journey to Heaven on Wednesday, September 6, 2023.
Pamela was born on June 3,1950, to Richard and Wanda (Cole) Grieve. She married her high school sweetheart, Eltjo “Joe” Vondeling the summer of 2006, and they shared many devoted years together. Pam attended Flint Northern High School, graduating with the class of 1968. She worked at Hurley Medical Center for a total of 37 years, 22 of those years she served as their Union President before retiring. Pam will be lovingly remembered for her devotion to the simple hippie farm life and could often be found outside in her tie-dye shirt or driving around in her classic Volkswagen convertible bug. If she wasn’t tending to the farm, you could also find Pam enjoying her weekly shuffleboard games and driving the party van to weekend music concerts. Helping others and volunteering was one of Pam’s true passions and she regularly rescued all types of animals, at all hours of the day, all over Michigan. One of Pam’s favorite past times was posting on Facebook - trying to save, transport or donate to help any rescue groups in need. As an avid Michigan State fan, Pam enjoyed chanting the MSU Fight Song and “let’s go green”, rivaling her Michigan fan husband.
Left to cherish her memory are: Beloved husband, Joe Vondeling; Father, Richard (Dorothy) Grieve; Sisters: Deborah Scharrer, Tabatha Grieve, and Sherrie Grieve; Nephews: Dustin (Rachel) Scharrer, Darin (Mandi) Scharrer, and Brandon (Tiffany) Grieve; Great nephews: Jacob and Kaiden Grieve; Special friend, James Hogan; Many other loving family members and dear friends. Pam was preceded in death by her mother, Wanda Grieve.
Honoring Pam’s wishes, cremation will be taking place. A memorial service will be held at 2PM Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Pastor Carol Freeland officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service at 2PM. The family requests those attending services to please dress casually and wear your favorite tie-dye or concert t-shirt, in memory, and to honor Pam. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider StreetHearts Animal Rescue or Pan Equus Animal Sanctuary (PEAS).
