Dean was born in Marysville, Kansas on April 1, 1934, the son of the late Reverend Herbert Martin Ernst and Laurena Daenzer. Growing up, because his father was a Lutheran pastor, he moved from Kansas to Texas, then finally to Birch Run, Michigan. Dean’s family was one of the original founding families of Frankenmuth, Michigan.
Dean proudly served in the U.S. Army. On September 15, 1956 he married Jeanette Nichols in Birch Run by Dean's father, Reverend Herbert M. Daenzer and he was then stationed at Fort Chaffee in Fort Smith, Arkansas. After being discharged from the Army, he started working for General Motors, Buick Division, and they raised their family of 3 boys in Grand Blanc.
Dean was very involved in Faith Lutheran Church, serving as Vice President, an elder; choir director and then choir member for many years.
Dean and Jeanette built a cottage on the Manistee River in Grayling, Michigan, where they enjoyed hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing and walking the Mackinac Bridge every Labor Day for more than 20 years.
After Dean retired from GM, you could find him marshalling on the 12th Tee at the Buick Open. He and Jeanette were fortunate to be able to spend many winters in Daytona, Florida. Dean always had a smile on his face, never had a bad thing to say about anyone and could always find something to compliment you on. He loved his family, his church and sharing his Lifesaver mints. He will be greatly missed.
Surviving are sons, Ronald and wife Staci of Bristow, Virginia, Michael and wife Lisa of Henderson, Nevada, Dave and wife Jeana of Traverse City, MI; grandchildren, Alan, Erik, Emily, Katie, Drew, Darcy and Joshua; brother, Don and wife Nancy Daenzer; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Daenzer; parents, Reverend Herbert Martin Ernst Daenzer and Laurena Daenzer.
Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Serene Gardens Assisted Living; hospice nurse, Molly and in-home helpers, Lisa and Chris.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord lift his countenance upon you and give you peace. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious, the Lord be gracious unto you. Amen
