Vickie Lynn Thompson Wilbur, age 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at home. In her final moments, she was listening to music from one of her favorite artists, Carole King, softly taking her last breath as she finally went "Home Again."
Born in Flint, Michigan on March 12, 1952, to Leon and Georgia Thompson, Vickie grew up in Grand Blanc alongside her seven brothers and sisters. As one of the oldest in a bustling household, her huge, selfless heart showed itself early. She acted less like a big sister and more like a second mother to her siblings, establishing a lifelong role as a protector and caretaker.
In 1971, Vickie married Donald Wilbur, who tragically passed away in 1974. In 1981, she married Greg Maul, and though they later divorced, a deep bond of care and affection remained between them; Through every storm life threw her way, Vickie weathered them all and remained fiercely independent. She was unapologetically strong, spirited, wonderfully feisty, and possessed a quick wit and a beautiful, contagious laugh.
For 50 years, Vickie’s home on Bloor Avenue in Flint was her kingdom. In early years, it was the ultimate neighborhood hangout for family and friends. Later, she became the fierce guardian of her block, cleaning the street, mowing lawns for neighbors in need, and proudly acting as the neighborhood crime watcher. She loved her neighbors, especially her special neighbor Mike, who faithfully watched over her and took care of her in return.
Vickie was a woman who defined hard work, bringing her vibrant energy to a colorful array of jobs over the decades, often working right alongside her beloved mother, Georgia. No matter what job she did, she gave it her absolute all. Though she never had much in the way of material wealth, her generosity knew no bounds; she would literally give anyone the coat off her back.
Above all, her family was everything. Vickie was profoundly proud of her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her "Gram."
Surviving are her children: Tracey (Mike) Rigdon, Ian (Kim) Wilbur, and Amy Maul; bonus daughter, Amy Klumpp; grandchildren: Kayla, Luke, Logan, David, Sydney, Hayley, Aidan, Megan, and Chelsea; great-grandchildren: Teddy, Max, Sully, Dax, Asher, Lux, and Scottlyn; and siblings: Laurie (Mark) Ames, John Thompson, Lisa (Steve) Bowling, and Missy (Ricky) Rogers; and sisters-in-law: Mary Lou Peacock, Sherry Thompson-Cornett, and Sandy Thompson; many loving nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
