Gary J. Drenth, 61, of Ellsworth, died Saturday, October 2, 2010 at his home.
He was born May 28, 1949 in Charlevoix, the son of Gerrit George and Wilma (Heeres) Drenth.
On December 4, 1976, he married Brenda Strange at Belltower Reformed Church, and they made their home in Ellsworth.
Gary worked for Howes & Howes, Manthei Development Corp, Klooster Equipment, Ellsworth Farmers Exchange and East Jordan Iron Works. He also worked with his father-in-law Leonard Strange in construction and at The Meat Block.
Gary enjoyed his grandkids, car racing, draft horses, watching football, camping, having his many friends over for garage fellowship, and maintaining a beautiful yard.
Surviving are his wife Brenda; children Billie Jo (Matt) Peters of Sebewaing and Barney Drenth (Mary Schultz) of Atwood; six grandchildren; sister Thelma (Henry) Koens of Hudsonville, brothers Chester (Marlene) Drenth, Eugene (Patty) Drenth of Ellsworth, and Don Heeres of Mancelona. Gary was preceded in death this summer by his best friend Edwin VanDuinen Jr. of Merritt.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hastings Funeral Home in Ellsworth.
The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 7, at Belltower Reformed Church with The Rev. Chip Sauer officiating.
Burial will be in Atwood Cemetery.
For those wishing to make memorial contributions, the family suggests Good Samaritan Family Services in Ellsworth.
