HENSON, GARY – Of Flint, age 80, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023
at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, Kyle Henson and Mark Cox officiating.
Visitation 2 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2023 and 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2023 until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Gary was born in Enid, Oklahoma on February 22, 1943, the son of the late Jake and Juanita (Ratliff) Henson.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Marilyn Henson.
Gary was a founding member of the Swartz Creek Church of Christ.
He filled many roles in the church including deacon, Bible class teacher, bus driver and was known for his passionate prayers for others.
He enjoyed reading the Bible, bowling, woodworking, candle making, gardening and caring for his fish pond; and especially his parakeet, Joe Bird.
Gary loved watching his grandchildren play sports and even videotaped a majority of their events.
Surviving are children, Kevin (Kim) Henson, Karla Henson and Kyle (Miranda) Henson;
grandchildren, Justin (Erica) Sloan, Brittani Sloan, Jena Sloan, Jillian Sloan, Brennen (Brennan) Henson, Brock Henson, Isabella Henson and Victoria Henson;
great-grandchildren, Henson Sloan, Lyla Sloan and Johnie Kate Henson;
brother, Ronald (Betty) Henson.
He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Henson.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice; and especially nurse, LeeAnn for the wonderful, loving care given to our dad over the last couple of months; and to the many others who cared for and visited our dad.
