HOPKINS, Gary F. - Of Fenton, age 79, joined his Savior Sunday, November 15, 2020 at McLaren-Flint.
A private memorial service will be held at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint.
Pastor Jim Wiegand officiating.
Cremation has taken place.
Contributions may be made to Kingdom Builders, c/o Freedom Center Church in Fenton or U of M Cancer Research Center.
Visitation 2-8pm Wednesday and 10am-12pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Gary was born in Flint on March 15, 1941, the son of the late Franklin and Gwendolyn (White) Hopkins. Gary graduated from Flint Central High School and Michigan State University. On November 23, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Herford. He owned and operated Dort Tavern, Sun Valley and Capitol City Pools in Lansing and his parents, in 1947, founded Diamond Dry Cleaners as well as Diamond Commercial Linen. Gary also founded with his father, the Ten Point Sportsman’s Club in Rose City in 1964. Gary was also a member of the Masons and the Optimist Club. Gary loved the water, fishing, boating, tubing, hunting and LIFE. But most of all he loved his high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Roberta.
Surviving are wife, Roberta;
sons, Eric and wife Theresa Hopkins of Centreville, MI and Blair and wife Amy Hopkins of Grand Blanc;
grandchildren, Bryce and fiancee Clarissa Hopkins, Kaylee Hopkins and Shea Hopkins;
Granddogs, Erzo, Olive and Roxy;
Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
He is also survived by the Kirk family, the Herford family and the Wilson family and many dear friends.
