Merle was born in Goodrich, MI on April 7, 1946, son of the late Albert D. and Louella F. (Johnson) Lobban. He was a graduate of Grand Blanc High School Class of 1964. Merle served his country as a sergeant in the Air Force for four years beginning in January of 1966. Merle married Linda Kay Lighthiser, the love of his life, on August 7, 1976, at First Baptist Church in Davison. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Davison since 1972, but served his Lord faithfully through his talent of music over a 63 year period in many churches across multiple denominations. Beginning at only 13 years of age, Merle blessed many corporate worships, weddings, funerals, and concerts by playing the organ, piano, and leading choir first at Atlas Baptist Church, in the Air Force, at First Baptist Church of Davison, St. John Evangelist Catholic Church, Blessed Sacrament, and St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church of Davison. He also worked for General Motors and EDS as a project manager for 30 years. Merle enjoyed teaching piano after retiring from GM and EDS, as well as camping all over the great state of Michigan with Linda, playing music, reading, and most of all being Papa to “The Lobban Boys”.
Merle is survived by his loving wife, Linda; son, Matthew (Jill) Lobban; grandsons, Camden, Jaxson, and Maverick; sister-in-law, Vicki (Wayne) Gates; brother-in-law Michael (Maureen) Lighthiser; nieces and nephews and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, David Paul Lobban (1951) and his parents, Albert Delevan (1954) and Louella Francis (2004) Lobban.
Special thanks to the Davison community and broader Church family for the prayers and support during Merle’s recent injury and illness.
