Sue was born in Highland Park, Michigan on September 21, 1947, to the late Marion and Bessie Blasingame (née Smith). She married Gilbert Davenport at South Flint Tabernacle on September 4, 1965.
Sue was a very gifted musician who enjoyed the ministry of music and was always very active in her church life. Whether it was leading a choir, working with a praise team, or mentoring musicians, Sue did everything with total devotion and passion! She was also a National Honor Society recipient and was awarded a full scholarship to the Interlochen Center for the Arts, which is a prestigious school for music and the performing arts.
Sue took joy in cooking, gathering recipes old and new, and creating her own, before refining them all to perfection.
She also greatly enjoyed simply spending time with her family and friends. Since Sue’s family was largely spread out across the United States, she naturally enjoyed traveling to visit family as well.
One of Sue’s most frequent pastimes was genealogy. She spent long hours searching through online databases, placing phone calls to locate family documents and calling distant relatives in order to dig up any history on her family and fill out the family tree.
Sue loved God, good music, good food, good friends, and her family. She was truly a gift to all of those who knew her!
Surviving her are Sue’s husband, Gilbert;
Son Randy (wife Sherry) of Austin, TX
Sons Chris of Ferndale, MI and
Jeff of Flint, MI
Sue’s beloved granddaughters Amanda Davenport of Austin, TX & Alyssa Davenport-Looney of Dripping Springs, TX
Sue’s brothers, Donald (wife Brenda) Blasingame of Hot Springs, AR and
Michael Phelps of Lowell, MI;
nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Mrs. Davenport was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Roberts, her mother Bessie Phelps and her father Marion Hal Blasingame.
