HARCZ, Paul Joseph, Sr. - of Mt. Morris, age 94, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, June 23, 2023. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11AM Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church - 11110 N. Saginaw St., in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Denis Spitzley officiating. Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio on Thursday from 12PM until 8PM, and at the church on Friday from 10AM until the time of Mass at 11AM. A Rosary will be prayed at 6PM Thursday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Paul was born October 31, 1928, on the family farm to the late Joseph and Esther (Knickerbocker) Harcz and lived on the farm his entire life. He graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1946. Paul married the love of his life, Betty Lorraine Buys on March 5, 1952, and they enjoyed many wonderful years together before she preceded him in death February 22, 2017. Mr. Harcz is a proud U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and served during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until he was honorably discharged in 1953. He lived by the saying “once a marine, always a marine.” And their motto, “Semper Fi.” Paul was a carpenter most of his life and owned and operated Morse and Harcz Construction for over 30 years before retiring in 1995. He was a true servant of God which reflected in everything he did in life, and a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Paul was a member of the Knights of Columbus #4285 of Mt. Morris, and formerly served as school board president for St. Mary’s Catholic School. He enjoyed traveling, camping, playing cards, and had a wonderful sense of humor. Above all, Paul loved spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and parishioner.
Surviving are: Children: Paul Joseph Harcz, Jr., Greg Harcz, Tom (Deborah) Harcz, Mike (Terri) Harcz, Christopher (Cheryl) Harcz, Robin (Jim) Norton, John (Betsy) Harcz, and David (Patti) Harcz; 26 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and dear friends. Paul was also preceded in death by: Granddaughter, Cierra Rose; Daughter-in-law, Donna Harcz; Sister, Rosemary Sedgewick.
