Nikitas "Nick" Kalafatis age 63 of Durand passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at his home. A funeral service will held at 11:00 on Thursday, February 22, at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church 2245 E. Baldwin Rd., Grand Blanc, MI 48439. Rev. Fr. Peter Bistolarides will be officiating. Burial will follow to Evergreen Cemetery in Grand Blanc. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Durand Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Nikitas Kalafatis was born August 2, 1960 in Salonika, Greece a son of John and Maria (Alexandris) Kalafatis. In 1969 he immigrated to the United States. Nick started working as soon as he was able at different restaurants. He developed a love for cooking and in 1983 he opened up his own restaurant, Nick's Hometown Grill in Durand, which he has owned and operated for the past 41 years. Nick enjoyed building houses, selling cars, listening to music, taking care of friends and family, dogs, watching FOX News, and hosting parties. He also had a passion for politics and history.
Nick is survived by his significant other, Barbara Pellom; children, John (Michelle) Kalafatis, Nikitas Kalafatis Jr., Andrew (Caryn) Kalafatis, Kassandra Kalafatis, and Natalie Kalafatis; grandchildren, John II, Lorelai, Nikitas III, Joe, Samuel, Levi, Alexander, Maximus, and Killian; and sister, Helen (George) Liponis. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Maria.
